Mental Health Therapist - Francesca Contreras, LCSW
Bio
Francesca Contreras, LCSW, identifies as a cisgender, biracial woman who is passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community to promote mental health and well-being. Francesca obtained her B.A in Africana Studies at Brown University (2011), her yoga teacher certification from Kripalu School of Yoga (2014) and her Master of Social Work at FIU (2020). As a former community activist involved in movements to support immigrant communities, domestic workers, janitors, and LGBTQIA+ survivors of color, Francesca is passionate about social justice and how it relates to mental health and wellbeing. Her therapeutic style can be described as warm, empathic, and strengths-based. She scans for what is working with her clients and engages them actively to build upon those strengths in accordance with their values, while also acknowledging the very real systemic challenges life throws peoples’ ways. She enjoys sharing tools of mindfulness meditation and movement; cognitive behavioral techniques for managing chronic pain; and strategies for (re)creating a nourishing relationship with food and body through intuitive eating. She has experience providing psychotherapy to adults living with HIV and with substance use disorders and feels privileged to work with the trans and gender diverse community as they seek the gender affirming care they deserve. PRIMARY AREAS OF EXPERTISE: Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-sensitive Yoga, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, and intuitive eating.

Mental Health Therapist – Gerry Fisher, LCSW
Bio
Gerry Fisher, LCSW, identifies as a cisgender, gay man who loves to take mindfulness-based CBT and customize it to someone’s style and strengths, making therapy feel smoother and more fun. Gerry’s 25+ year mindfulness meditation practice informs much of the work that he does. His style of therapy is often called “working in the here and now”: being clear on how you feel about today, and working together to help build a more peaceful and enjoyable tomorrow. Throughout his career, Gerry has enjoyed working with individuals between the ages of 10 and 75, working in clinic settings, and maintaining a private practice for a number of years that included Life and Career Coaching. Gerry obtained a Master of Clinical Social Work (MSW) degree from Boston University in 1997. In his “previous life,” Gerry earned a degree in English Literature and Computer Science, and he worked for many years as a software technical writer for a large computer company. Gerry enjoys literature, being a women’s collegiate basketball fan (he is a former high school jock and short stop on an LGBTQ+ softball team), following politics and occasional political participation, hanging with his most excellent husband of 21 years, and keeping company with members of the Bears of South Florida. PRIMARY AREAS OF EXPERTISE: Trauma treatment (exposure therapy, cognitive restructuring, and trigger reduction), anxiety disorders, stress reduction, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and skill building designed to reduce painful emotions.
